Ad plays silently but when moused over the audio blasts out at a loud level, well the volume did happen to be set at 11... highly obtrusive.

4 years ago I hiked the Camino de Santiago, an old pilgrimage route that goes across Spain (850 km)

I had a diskman at the time and used for about 5 minutes during the walk.

I found that it ruined the whole experience.

sometimes the best music is absolute silence

    For hiking, I agree.
As for running, I gotta have my tunes...

Sorry about playing grammar police, but this one was just too egregious for me. "gen." is an abbreviation, not an acronym. Laser is an acronym: Laser=L.A.S.E.R.=Light Amplified by Stimulating Emissions of Radiation.

Oups, you're right, my mistake. I meant to say abbreviation, not acronym. Thanks.

I wonder how many team members don't even know about the passkey/bonus system? Could we up output by educating them about that, as well as client configuration?

I guess it looks a bit like it - never seen it before. I started with just the shark but then I thought he needed some prey (was going to go with a scuba diver but thought that was in bad taste :)).

HTC Thunderbolt outsold the iPhone 4 on Verizon.

Not even close. The 4 sold 2.2 million on Verizon; the Thunderbolt sold maybe 500-700,000. TB sold 130,000/wk. 4 on Verizon sold 366,000/wk.

This whole meme is based on an analyst who called a 150 Verizon stores and asked how the TB was selling vs. the 4. 61% said that they were selling about the same; 28% said that the TB was selling better.

This was a stupid methodology, of course, since it left out factors like how the 4 was selling at Apple stores or online...or at any place other than verizon stores. And the analyst also only polled stores in locations were LTE was available.

If you are going to use Wiki, at least get some uptodate figures.

Apple are putting in $25bn quarters, so I reckon we can predict a close on to $100bn turnover for the 2011/2012 year. Which isn't far off the 2009 figure for Samsung Electronics at $117bn turnover.

As for the 2-3 times - then you are comparing the whole of Samsung Group, which I'm sure you said that you weren't comparing. But even if we were comparing the whole group, it's $100bn vs $175bn. So not 2-3 times. Maybe 3 times if you are comparing 2009 - which again is slightly boring since Apple's financial muscle has increased hugely in the last 18-24 months.

At best, you were being disingenius when you said "2-3" times for the electronics group, (wiki shows $65bn vs $117bn), when 65 is clearly more than half of 117. As you have trouble with maths, 65*2 is 130. And, taking no chances, 117 is less than 130.

So quite where your "2-3" comes from I have no idea.

Maybe as a hater your maths are failing you? Who knows. ;)

My bad as I was upset at people spewing ignorance without checking facts.

I support PCs and servers in my job, along with Macs as we're a mixed shop.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt what you put down has little basis in reality. Yes, windows machines take longer to boot up, but not always because of the the antivirus software.

They take longer because IT (me and my co workers) we make sure that group policies are pushed out on every reboot, so the machines are fairly locked down. We also push out updates to software automatically and also yes do virus scans.

For IT to take macs serious, they will need to easily apply group policies to the computer remotely and automatically. Have applications available that allows them to update client applications.

The cost of such is generally to a degree that makes using macs not feasible.

btw, I get just as many calls regarding problems with macs as I do with PCs. In fact many enterprise applications have some major compatibility issues with Safari.

Total Cost of Ownership, up time, training support and efficiencies all point to using PCs over a Mac.

Just because apple fanboys say its cheaper in the long run means its true, quite the opposite. Asset depreciation of Macs is the same as PCs, so there's no financial incentive for a business to hold on to a mac longer then a PC, and actually its negative to hold on to an asset when its fully depreciated even if its still functional. This throws the idea that macs last longer out the door when dealing with business and depreciation

So why buy a computer that costs 2x more then another, has less ability to support/manage remotely. Has the same level of support required, i.e., support calls for users who need help, has some serious compatibility issues with some enterprise applications and also requires a fair amount of re-training for both the users and support staff.

The last paragraph is your opinion and experience. As for full depreciation; what are you talking about? I've yet to meet a CFO that cares about using a desktop system that's completely depreciated. In your scenario, it's off the books, so throw it out the window...? You're right, most PC's/Laptops are fully depreciated at the end of 3 years, so there is no advantage for Mac over a PC. That's where a lot businesses AND IT people miss the boat. That's why there's more and more push to Cloud [Private as it relates to this] for applications allowing staff to use what they want. Having a narrow minded approach like this in business will cripple it. The true cost of savings is not having to push out applications, or install applications on 100's of systems. It's publishing the apps to be used on anything; PC, Laptop, Mac, Linux, Tablets, Phones, etc...

Hey people, it's inflation, get used to it. The price of everything is going up in case you live under a rock and haven't noticed.

So how much is that regular contract going up? Oh yeah, it's not. ie. it's not inflation, it's them doing it because they can nickel and dime you. Coming soon, they'll charge you per minute for calling customer service...

I saw that article about the M5 concept this morning. The new 5er looks much better than the one just replaced, but I'm still very partial to the E39 5 series. I had a 2003 530i and to this day regret getting rid of it.

While much has been made of Android's rapid gains in the smartphone market that has seen it surge past the iPhone, a perhaps equally vocal contingent has pointed out that iOS is much larger than just the iPhone and that Android has only just started pushing into the tablet market and has yet to forge an effort into the non-phone touch device market.

But yesterday, comScore finally put some numbers behind (http://www.comscore.com/Press_Events/Press_Releases/2011/4/Apple_iOS_Platform_Outreaches_Android_by_59_Percent_in_U.S) that latter argument, building off its earlier report (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/04/verizon-iphone-leads-u-s-mobile-phone-sales-in-february-as-android-surge-continues/) regarding February data on smartphone usage to reveal that the overall iOS platform of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch reaches 37.9 million users in the U.S., 59% greater than the reach of Android.Initial research indicates that Apple's iOS platform, which resides on iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches, has a combined platform reach of 37.9 million among all mobile phones, tablets and other such connected media devices, outreaching the Android platform by 59 percent.Rather than simply counting device sales, comScore's data tracks individual users, making that 37.9 million number reflective of users (some of whom have more than one iOS device) rather than devices directly.

As a result, Apple's iOS reaches 16.2% of the 234 million mobile platform users in the United States, with Android registering at 10.2% with 23.8 million users.

But perhaps most notably, comScore finds that there is not a tremendous amount of overlap in users, with only 10.5% of iOS users accessing the system from multiple devices such as an iPhone and iPad or iPhone and iPod touch."These data clearly illustrate the Apple ecosystem extends far beyond the iPhone," added [comScore senior vice president of mobile Mark] Donovan. "Though it's frequently assumed that the Apple user base is composed of dedicated Apple 'fanboys', there's not a tremendous amount of overlapping mobile device access among these users. This of course has significant implications for the developer community as they consider the market potential in developing applications for different mobile platforms."
